BHM18 questions why conversations about Black History Month in Britain so often centre American history. In this self-portrait, Michael Akuagwu sits on three influential books by David Olusoga, Reni Eddo-Lodge and Afua Hirsch. Using an intentionally surreal composition, he draws attention to the writers and histories that illuminate Black life in Britain and asks whose stories are given space.
