Nicoy (also known as DOWNES) is a UK-based artist specialising in oil painting while remaining open to other mediums. Inspired by his life in the UK and his Caribbean heritage, his work reflects personal and cultural experiences. Although his formal art education ended at GCSE level, he further developed his skills through independent study, learning from artists such as Andrew Tischler, Tom Fox, and Patrick Okrasinski. His style emphasises dynamic perspectives, portraiture, and intentional colour choices, allowing for open interpretation. Influenced by figures like René Magritte and Kim Jung Gi, he blends traditional and contemporary approaches to create fresh, engaging visual narratives.
