Ms. Misunderstood celebrates the variety and beauty of Black hairstyles while challenging the stigma historically attached to them. The work encourages viewers to look beyond surface appearances and consider the cultural, social and spiritual meanings held in Black hair. Hair becomes a language of identity and expression, carrying histories that deserve to be recognised rather than misread.
