Beyond the Blues — Abigail Okpako (Buzzawe)
£18,000.00
Artist: Abigail Okpako (Buzzawe)
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm; unframed
Beyond the Blues reclaims a narrative of resilience, moving beyond histories of struggle towards contemporary joy and emotional freedom. References to blues music, sushi and a blue bandana resist the assumptions often projected onto Black communities. By reclaiming symbols that are frequently misunderstood, the painting asks viewers to look beyond appearances and recognise the freedom of defining oneself.
