Okay so. We're going to Art Basel Qatar next week.

This is the first Art Basel ever in Qatar. Which means it's their first time AND our first time.

Here's the thing. We only officially opened our doors in March 2025. We're less than a year old, but we have BIG plans for this year. When we started The Lemon Seed Project we had two main missions, to champion black artists, and to bring art back where it belongs - home. We know how gate kept the art world can feel and it's often talented Black artists that get overlooked and underpaid. Not because they're not good enough. They're more than good enough. But because they don't have access to the right rooms, the right conversations, the right people who can actually open doors.

So that's what we're hoping to start to do when we get to Qatar. Open new doors. For them and honestly for us too. What's even more exciting is that they're doing something different this year...

Gone are the booth setups, instead picture an incredibly immersive open format curated by Egyption artist, Wael Shawky. 87 galleries, all responding to the theme "Becoming" displaying some of the best art from artists from the MENA region and beyond. This will be a completely new experience for us.

Our co-founder and marketing director Maya is really looking forward to connecting with curators, artists, and gallerists while seeing what's happening in the region. If you're attending, exhibiting or just in the area, she'd love to meet you. You can pop her over an email here.

Can't make it to Qatar? We got you. We'll be vlogging the whole thing on our Instagram (@lemonseedproject), so make sure to give us a follow. And if Art Basel Qatar isn't on your calendar, check out our latest blog about all the Art Basels happening globally this year. There's probably one closer to you than you think.

If you’re attending, exhibiting, or in Doha during the fair, reach out to Maya. She’d love to meet, talk about art, and hear about what people are working on. If you have recommendations for galleries, studios, or cultural spots, let us know, we want to experience the city beyond the fair.

If you can’t make Qatar, other Art Basel editions this year include

Hong Kong: 27–29 March,

Switzerland: 18–21 June,

Paris: 23–25 October,

Miami Beach: 4–6 December.

We’ll be sharing a full downloadable calendar of major art events around the world soon so keep a look out.

We’re so excited to be attending our first ever Art Basel. Stay tuned for updates!
